Arunachal Pradesh is home to many indigenous tribes, each with its own distinct ethos, traditions, and way of life. Their beliefs, rituals, and social practices have been nurtured over generations and continue to find expression through their festivals. These celebrations serve as living reflections of the cultural narratives and values that shape the identity of each community.
For our Galo community, the Mopin Festival holds special cultural significance. Rooted in age-old traditions, the festival reflects the community’s close relationship with its heritage and collective spirit. It brings people together in celebration, strengthening social bonds within the community while also offering others an opportunity to appreciate the cultural richness of the Galo people. Over time, the observance of Mopin has helped sustain traditional practices and pass them on to younger generations. At the same time, such cultural gatherings contribute to social harmony.
I am pleased to learn that the Mopin Festival Celebration Committee, Itanagar is celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of the festival celebrations in the State Capital City and to commemorate this special occasion, the festival committee is bringing out a souvenir titled ‘Ai-Agam’. I hope that the publication will serve as a meaningful record of the traditions and aspirations of the Galo community and encourage younger generations to remain connected to their cultural roots.
On this festive occasion, I join the entire Galo community in offering prayers to Mopin Ane for the well-being of all. I also extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all my Galo brethren.
Happy Mopin!
